Brown-chested Barbet, Capito brunneipectus, is a New World barbet found in north-central Brazil, where it breeds in the central Amazon Basin. It was described by Chapman in 1921. This bird lives in the canopy of wet forest south of the Amazon River, between the Madeira River and the Tapajós River. It is a monotypic species. The male has a dull gold crown, a black mark through the eye, a black back with yellow streaking, and a cinnamon breastband, while the female is duller and has more yellow on the wings.
