Brown-crested Flycatcher

Myiarchus phaeocephalus

The Brown-crested Flycatcher is a medium-sized bird found in the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico. It has a brownish-olive upperparts, a yellow belly, and a distinctive rufous tail. This species is known for its loud and distinctive call, often heard in its preferred habitat of open woodlands, riparian areas, and scrublands. The Brown-crested Flycatcher feeds on insects and is often observed perching on exposed branches or wires, sallying out to catch its prey. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation may pose future conservation challenges for this species.
