Brown Fish Owl

Ketupa zeylonensis

The Brown Fish Owl (Ketupa zeylonensis) is a large owl species found in South and Southeast Asia. It is known for its distinctive deep hoots and is often found near water bodies such as rivers, lakes, and marshes. This owl has a mottled brown plumage with a prominent facial disc and large, powerful talons. It preys on fish, frogs, and small mammals, using its excellent low-light vision and sharp talons to capture its prey. The Brown Fish Owl is a solitary bird and is most active during the night, using its keen hearing to locate prey. Due to habitat loss and degradation, this species faces threats in some parts of its range.
