Brown-fronted Woodpecker, Dendrocoptes auriceps, is a woodpecker of the Oriental Region, breeding from north-east Afghanistan to central Nepal. It occurs in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, especially in the lower to middle Himalayan zone, and is found in Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Bhutan. It lives in temperate forests and in moist montane forests in tropical or subtropical areas. The bird is a medium-sized pied woodpecker with yellow in the crown. It has white-barred black upperparts, a strong black moustache reaching the breast, black-streaked white underparts and a deep pink vent.
