Ninox scutulata

The Brown Hawk-Owl (Ninox scutulata) is a medium-sized owl found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive brown plumage with streaks and spots, and large yellow eyes. This nocturnal bird of prey is known for its haunting calls that echo through the forests at night. It preys on small mammals, birds, and insects, using its sharp talons and powerful beak to capture and consume its prey. The Brown Hawk-Owl is often found in dense forests, woodlands, and open country with scattered trees. It nests in tree hollows and lays 2-3 eggs per clutch. Despite some habitat loss, it is still relatively common and not currently considered threatened.
