Brown Hawk Owl

Ninox hypogramma

The Brown Hawk Owl (Ninox hypogramma) is a medium-sized owl found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive brown plumage with streaks and spots, large yellow eyes, and a hooked beak. This owl is primarily nocturnal and hunts small mammals, birds, and insects. It is known for its haunting, melodious calls during the night. The Brown Hawk Owl nests in tree cavities and is often found near water sources. It is a solitary bird and is territorial, defending its hunting grounds from other owls. Despite being adaptable to various habitats, deforestation and habitat loss pose threats to its population.
