Halcyon albiventris (Scopoli, 1786)

Brown-hooded Kingfisher, Halcyon albiventris, breeds in eastern, south-eastern and west-central Africa and is a kingfisher of woodland, scrubland, forest edges and suburban places. It was first described by Scopoli in 1786. The bird is marked by a brown head, with blackish and turquoise on the wings, and the head also shows blackish streaking. Its range is across Sub-Saharan Africa, and it is also recorded from cultivated land, parks and gardens. It is found below 1,800 m. Most populations stay in place, though some areas show seasonal movement.
