Mesitornis unicolor (des Murs, 1845)

Brown Mesite, Mesitornis unicolor, is a bird of Madagascar’s eastern forests, found in humid evergreen and deciduous woodland from Marojejy National Park south to Tôlanaro. It is a ground-living member of the Mesitornithidae and is the most widespread of the three mesite species. The bird has a plain face, a short straight bill, a large eye with a pale ring, and a white mark behind the eye that can vary. Its upperparts are rufous brown, while the underparts are tawny and unmarked. It is secretive and rarely seen.
