Brown-throated Wattle-eye

Melaniparus afer

The Brown-throated Wattle-eye, also known as the common wattle-eye, is a small passerine bird native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its distinctive black and white plumage, with a brown throat and a conspicuous white eye stripe. These birds are often found in dense forests and woodland areas, where they forage for insects and small invertebrates. They are known for their agile and acrobatic flight patterns as they capture prey in mid-air. The Brown-throated Wattle-eye is a vocal species, often heard producing a variety of melodious calls and songs. While not currently considered to be globally threatened, habitat loss and deforestation are potential threats to their populations.
