Brown Tinamou, Crypturellus obsoletus, is a tinamou in the family Tinamidae and the order Tinamiformes. It occurs widely across South America, with breeding range recorded as widespread. It is associated with humid lowland and montane forest in tropical and subtropical parts of the continent. The species is found in northern Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, eastern Bolivia, eastern Paraguay and extreme northeastern Argentina, and there are also records from Uruguay. Its range is described as highly fragmented, with several named forms across different regions.
