Cnipodectes subbrunneus (Sclater, PL, 1860)

Brownish Twistwing, Cnipodectes subbrunneus, is a passerine of Middle America and South America, breeding from Panama through Amazonia. It belongs to the Tyrannidae, the tyrant flycatchers, and was first described by Sclater in 1860. It is a forest bird of humid lowland evergreen woodland, and in some western parts also uses drier deciduous forest. It favours thick undergrowth and tangled vines, and in Bolivia it is linked with bamboo. The species has a broad bill, dark legs and feet, and the outer flight feathers of the male are twisted, giving the bird its name.
