Brubru

Nilaus afer (Latham, 1801)

Brubru, Nilaus afer, is a bushshrike found across Africa, where it is widespread. It belongs to the family Malaconotidae and is the only species in the genus Nilaus. It lives in dry open woodland, including acacia and broadleaved woodland in much of its range, and Brachystegia miombo woodland in parts of eastern and south-central Africa. The male of the nominate race has a black crown, white face markings and a black eye-stripe, with black upperparts, a tawny back stripe and white underparts with rufous flanks.
