Cacomantis variolosus

The Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus) is a species of cuckoo found in Australia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. It is known for its distinctive call, a descending series of whistling notes. This medium-sized cuckoo has a slender body, long tail, and a distinctive barred pattern on its underparts. It primarily feeds on insects and caterpillars, which it catches by gleaning from foliage or by aerial hawking. The Brush Cuckoo prefers dense forests, woodlands, and mangroves as its habitat, where it can be found foraging for food and singing from prominent perches. Although not globally threatened, the conservation status of this species is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
