Hypotaenidia philippensis
The Buff-banded Rail, also known as the Philippine Swamphen, is a medium-sized bird found in wetlands and grasslands across Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands. It has a distinctive appearance with a buff-colored band across its chest, contrasting with its dark brown and black plumage. These birds are often found foraging for insects, small vertebrates, and seeds in marshy areas and rice fields. They are known for their loud, repetitive calls and are often heard before they are seen. The Buff-banded Rail is not currently considered to be at risk, with stable populations across its range.
