Amazilia yucatanensis (Cabot, S, 1845)

Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Amazilia yucatanensis, breeds in Middle America from southern USA and eastern Mexico through the Yucatán Peninsula. It is a hummingbird of the family Trochilidae, first described by Cabot in 1845. The nominate form occurs from northern Belize and north-western Guatemala into south-eastern Mexico, while other populations extend through parts of Mexico and into Texas. It uses semi-open to open, fairly dry country, including scrub, forest edges, thorn forest, oak woodland, grassland patches, parks and gardens. In Texas and northern Mexico it is not fully sedentary, and some birds move north and east along the Gulf Coast.
