Calidris subruficollis
The Buff-breasted Sandpiper is a small shorebird with a mottled brown and buff-colored plumage. During the breeding season, it displays a distinctive buffy-orange wash on its head and neck. This species is known for its long migrations, breeding in the Arctic tundra and wintering in South America. Buff-breasted Sandpipers forage for insects and invertebrates in open grasslands, wet meadows, and mudflats. They are often found in small flocks. This species is of conservation concern due to habitat loss and degradation of its breeding and wintering grounds, as well as hunting pressure during migration.
