Chersomanes albofasciata
The Buff-crested Bustard is a medium-sized bird found in the grasslands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. It has a distinctive appearance, with a buff-colored crest on its head, mottled brown and white plumage, and a black stripe running down its neck. These birds are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where the males puff up their necks and tails to impress females. They are primarily ground-dwelling birds, foraging for insects and seeds in the grass. The Buff-crested Bustard is often seen in small groups or pairs and is known for its distinctive call, a series of deep, resonant booms. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and hunting, the species is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
