Buff-necked Woodpecker

Meiglyptes tukki (Lesson, RP, 1839)

Buff-necked Woodpecker, Meiglyptes tukki, breeds in the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo in the Oriental Region, and belongs to the woodpecker family Picidae. It is a small, dark brown bird with pale barring on the wings and a dull cream stripe on the neck. The bill is pointed and curves along the top line, and the species lacks a nuchal crest, which helps separate it from close relatives. It was first described by René Primevère Lesson in 1839.
