Buffy Fish Owl

Ketupa ketupu

The Buffy Fish Owl (Ketupa ketupu) is a large, powerful owl found in the forests and mangroves of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive buffy-orange facial disk and a mottled brown and buff plumage. This nocturnal bird is well adapted for hunting fish and other aquatic prey, with sharp talons and keen eyesight. Buffy Fish Owls are solitary and territorial, nesting in tree hollows near water bodies. They are known for their haunting hoots and calls during the night. Due to habitat loss and degradation, these owls are facing threats to their populations in some regions.
