Buffy Laughingthrush, Pterorhinus berthemyi, breeds in south-west, south-central and south-east China in the Oriental Region. It is a member of the Leiothrichidae family and was described by Oustalet in 1876. It was once treated as part of the rusty laughingthrush, but is now recognised as a separate species. Compared with that bird, it has paler grey underparts, more strongly marked rufous wings, wider white tail tips and clear black lores. It was formerly placed in Garrulax before being moved to Pterorhinus in 2018.
