Buffy Pipit

Anthus vaalensis

The Buffy Pipit (Anthus vaalensis) is a small passerine bird found in the grasslands and savannas of southern Africa. This species is characterized by its buffy-brown plumage with streaks on the breast and flanks, a slender bill, and a distinctive tail-wagging behavior. Buffy Pipits are often seen foraging on the ground for insects and seeds, using their long legs to hop and run through the grass. They are known for their melodious, tinkling song, which they deliver from a prominent perch. These birds are highly adaptable and can be found in a variety of open habitats, including agricultural fields, pastures, and grassy clearings. The Buffy Pipit is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is stable.
