Burchell's Courser
Cursorius rufus
Burchell's Courser (Cursorius rufus) is a medium-sized, ground-dwelling bird found in the open, arid savannas and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. This species is characterized by its cryptic plumage, long legs, and distinctive black and white facial markings. Burchell's Coursers are well adapted for life in their arid habitats, relying on their excellent camouflage and swift running abilities to evade predators. They are primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects and other small invertebrates on the ground. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation pose potential threats to their populations.
