Pterocles burchelli

Burchell's Sandgrouse (Pterocles burchelli) is a medium-sized bird species found in arid and semi-arid regions of southern Africa. These sandgrouse are well-adapted to desert environments and are known for their remarkable ability to travel long distances in search of water. They are highly social birds, often forming large flocks when visiting waterholes. Burchell's Sandgrouse have specialized feathers that allow them to carry water back to their chicks, a unique adaptation that sets them apart from other bird species.
