Cabanis's Sparrow

Peucaea carpalis

The Cabanis's Sparrow is a small, inconspicuous bird found in the southern United States and northern Mexico. It has a grayish-brown plumage with streaks on the back and a pale gray breast. This species is known for its distinctive song, a series of clear, whistled notes. Cabanis's Sparrows are often found in open grasslands, prairies, and agricultural fields where they forage for seeds and insects. They are typically seen foraging on the ground or perched on low vegetation. This species is not currently considered to be at risk, but its population may be affected by habitat loss and fragmentation.
