Branta hutchinsii
The Cackling Goose, scientific name Branta hutchinsii, is a small to medium-sized waterfowl species belonging to the family Anatidae. It closely resembles the Canada Goose but is smaller in size with a shorter neck. The plumage varies from light to dark brown with a distinctive white chinstrap. These geese are known for their high-pitched cackling calls during flight. They breed in the Arctic and subarctic regions and migrate to temperate and coastal areas during winter. Cackling Geese are herbivorous and feed on grasses, sedges, and grains. They are often found in wetlands, marshes, and agricultural fields.
