Cactus Wren

Campylorhynchus jocosus

The Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus jocosus) is a large, chunky bird with distinctive white stripes on its throat and a long, slightly curved bill. It is known for its loud, melodious song and its preference for arid desert habitats. This species is often found in scrubby areas with cacti, mesquite, and thorny vegetation, where it builds its bulky, globular nests. Cactus Wrens are omnivorous, feeding on insects, fruits, and seeds. They are highly territorial and will vigorously defend their nesting sites. Despite the challenges of living in harsh desert environments, Cactus Wrens are well-adapted and resilient birds.
