Calayan Rail, Aptenorallus calayanensis, is a rail found on Calayan Island in the Philippines, where it lives in primary and secondary forest on coralline limestone. It is a flightless bird and was once placed in Gallirallus before being assigned to its own genus. The bird is dark grey overall, with a blacker face and slightly browner upperparts. Its bill and legs are bright orange-red, a striking feature among similar ground birds on Calayan. It is also known for loud, harsh, nasal calls.
