California Thrasher

Toxostoma guttatum

The California Thrasher, scientifically known as Toxostoma guttatum, is a medium-sized bird native to the western United States. It is characterized by its long, curved bill and mottled brown plumage. These birds are known for their melodious and complex songs, often heard during the breeding season. California Thrashers inhabit chaparral and scrubland, where they forage for insects, seeds, and fruits on the ground. They are solitary and territorial birds, often found skulking in dense vegetation. Despite their relatively common status, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to their populations.
