California Thrasher

Toxostoma redivivum

The California Thrasher is a medium-sized songbird found in the chaparral and scrub habitats of California and Baja California. It has a long, curved bill and a distinctive, melodious song. This species is known for its secretive behavior, often foraging on the ground and remaining hidden in dense vegetation. The California Thrasher feeds on insects, fruits, and seeds. It builds a bulky nest in low shrubs and lays 3-4 eggs. Despite its relatively common status, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to its population.
