Thalassarche impavida
The Campbell albatross, scientific name Thalassarche impavida, is a large seabird belonging to the albatross family. It has a wingspan of around 2.7 meters and is predominantly white with black and gray markings on its wings and back. These majestic birds are known for their effortless gliding over the open ocean, where they spend most of their lives. They are skilled at using air currents to cover vast distances in search of food, primarily feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans. The Campbell albatross nests on a few subantarctic islands, including Campbell Island, and is vulnerable to threats such as fisheries bycatch and habitat degradation.
