Campbell teal

Anas nesiotis

The Campbell teal is a small species of dabbling duck endemic to the Campbell Island group of New Zealand. It has a distinctive mottled brown plumage with a green speculum and a dark bill. These ducks inhabit the grassy slopes, wetlands, and freshwater lakes of the Campbell Islands, where they forage for aquatic invertebrates and plant matter. The Campbell teal is classified as critically endangered due to habitat destruction, predation by introduced species, and low population numbers. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore their habitat and control invasive species to ensure the survival of this unique and beautiful duck.
