Campo Flicker

Colaptes campestris

The Campo Flicker is a medium-sized woodpecker found in South America. It has a distinctive barred black and white plumage on its back and wings, with a buff-colored face and underparts. The male has a red malar stripe, while the female lacks this feature. This species is often found in open woodlands, savannas, and agricultural areas, where it forages for insects and occasionally feeds on fruits and seeds. The Campo Flicker is known for its loud calls and drumming sounds, which it uses to communicate and establish territories. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to its populations.
