Canyon Towhee, Melozone fusca, is a passerine of the family Passerellidae that breeds in North America and Middle America, from south-western USA into Mexico. It is a separate species from the California towhee, a split that was not recognised until 1989. It lives in brush and chaparral in lower-lying country, mainly away from the coast. The bird is found on the ground or in low scrub, and near people it may feed in parking lots and shelter beneath cars when disturbed.
