Canyon Towhee

Melozone fusca

The Canyon Towhee (Melozone fusca) is a medium-sized sparrow found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It has a distinctive rufous-brown plumage with a grayish-brown head and a long, dark tail. This bird is known for its habit of scratching in leaf litter for food, and its song is a series of clear whistles. Canyon Towhees are typically found in arid habitats such as desert scrub, chaparral, and rocky canyons. They are often seen foraging on the ground for seeds, insects, and small fruits. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential concerns for this species.
