Canyon Towhee

Pheucticus tibialis

The Canyon Towhee (Pheucticus tibialis) is a medium-sized sparrow found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It has a distinctive rufous crown, grayish-brown back, and a long, dark tail with white edges. This bird is often found in arid habitats such as desert scrub, chaparral, and rocky canyons. It forages on the ground for seeds, insects, and small fruits. The Canyon Towhee is known for its melodious song, which consists of a series of whistled notes. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to its populations.
