Cape Batis

Batis minor

The Cape Batis is a small passerine bird native to southern Africa. It is characterized by its distinctive black and white plumage, with a black head and back, and a white belly and wing patches. This species is known for its agile and acrobatic foraging behavior, often catching insects in mid-air. Cape Batis are commonly found in forests, woodlands, and scrub habitats, where they build cup-shaped nests and lay small clutches of eggs. While not currently considered at risk, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to their populations.
