Cape Bunting

Emberiza capensis

The Cape Bunting (Emberiza capensis) is a small passerine bird native to southern Africa. It is known for its distinctive black and white plumage with a chestnut-colored back. This species is often found in open grasslands, agricultural areas, and scrubland, where it forages for seeds and insects. The Cape Bunting is known for its melodious song, often heard during the breeding season. It builds cup-shaped nests in low shrubs or grass, where it lays a clutch of eggs. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose potential threats to its populations.
