Cape Eagle-Owl

Bubo cinerascens

The Cape Eagle-Owl (Bubo cinerascens) is a majestic bird of prey found in southern Africa. With a wingspan of up to 1.5 meters, it is one of the largest owl species in the region. This owl is known for its striking orange eyes and prominent ear tufts. It primarily inhabits rocky outcrops, cliffs, and wooded savannas, where it hunts at night for small mammals, birds, and insects. The Cape Eagle-Owl is a powerful and stealthy hunter, using its keen eyesight and silent flight to capture prey. While not currently considered at risk, habitat loss and human disturbance pose potential threats to its populations.
