Tylas eduardi
The Cape Gannet, scientifically known as Tylas eduardi, is a large seabird found along the coasts of southern Africa. With a wingspan of around 180-200 cm, these birds are known for their striking appearance, featuring predominantly white plumage with black wingtips and a yellowish hue on the head. They are well-adapted for diving and can plunge from great heights into the ocean to catch fish. Cape Gannets are highly social birds, often nesting in large colonies on offshore islands. Their diet primarily consists of small fish and squid. Due to threats such as overfishing and pollution, the conservation status of the Cape Gannet is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
