Cape Griffon

Gyps coprotheres

The Cape Griffon, also known as the Cape Vulture, is a large bird of prey found in southern Africa. With a wingspan of up to 2.6 meters, it is one of the largest vultures. These birds are predominantly scavengers, feeding on carrion and playing a crucial role in the ecosystem by cleaning up decaying animal matter. They are highly social and often form large colonies, nesting on cliffs and ledges. The Cape Griffon is facing threats from habitat loss, poisoning, and collisions with power lines, leading to a decline in their population.
