Cape petrel

Daption capense

The Cape petrel, also known as the Cape pigeon, is a seabird found in the Southern Ocean. It has a distinctive black and white plumage, with a dark cap on its head and a broad white band across its wings. These birds are highly adapted for life at sea, with strong wings for gliding and diving, and a keen sense of smell to locate food. Cape petrels are often seen following ships, scavenging for food scraps. They breed in colonies on remote islands and rocky cliffs, and their diet consists mainly of fish and krill. Despite their large population size, they face threats from climate change and pollution.
