Cape Rock-Thrush

Turdus fumigatus

The Cape Rock-Thrush (Turdus fumigatus) is a medium-sized thrush found in southern Africa. It has a distinctive plumage, with males displaying a striking blue-grey head and back, contrasting with a bright orange underbelly. Females have a more subdued brown plumage. These birds are commonly found in rocky areas, including cliffs and gorges, where they forage for insects, small reptiles, and fruits. They are known for their melodious and varied song, which they use to communicate and defend their territories. The Cape Rock-Thrush is not considered to be globally threatened and is relatively common within its range.
