Cape Verde shearwater

Calonectris edwardsii

The Cape Verde shearwater (Calonectris edwardsii) is a medium-sized seabird found in the Atlantic Ocean. It has a dark brownish-grey upper body and white underparts, with a distinctive black cap on its head. These birds are known for their graceful flight and are often seen gliding over the ocean surface. Cape Verde shearwaters breed in colonies on remote islands and cliffs, where they nest in burrows or rock crevices. They feed on fish and squid, diving into the water to catch their prey. Despite facing threats from introduced predators and habitat degradation, conservation efforts are underway to protect their breeding sites and foraging areas.
