Ploceus capensis

The Cape Weaver (Ploceus capensis) is a small to medium-sized bird found in southern Africa. It is known for its striking yellow plumage, with the males displaying a bright yellow crown and underparts. Females and juveniles have more subdued plumage, with olive-yellow tones. Cape Weavers are highly social birds, often seen in large colonies building intricate, woven nests made from grass and leaf strips. They are primarily seed-eaters but also feed on insects, nectar, and fruit. These weavers inhabit a range of open habitats, including grasslands, savannas, and suburban areas. Their conservation status is of Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List.
