Myzomela cardinalis (Gmelin, JF, 1788)

Cardinal Myzomela, Myzomela cardinalis, is a honeyeater found in Makira, Rennell and Temotu in the Solomon Islands, as well as Vanuatu and the Loyalty Islands. It is a passerine and a permanent resident across that range. The bird is named for the male’s scarlet plumage. It lives in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and mangrove forest, and also visits places with flowers, including gardens. It has a long, curved bill suited to taking nectar from blossoms.
