Caribbean Petrel

Pterodroma caribbaea

The Caribbean Petrel, also known as the West Indian Petrel, is a seabird species found in the Caribbean region. It is a medium-sized petrel with a dark plumage, white underparts, and a distinctive pale crescent-shaped patch above the eye. These birds are highly pelagic, spending most of their lives at sea and returning to land only to breed. They nest in burrows on remote islands and cliffs, often in large colonies. The Caribbean Petrel is an opportunistic feeder, preying on fish, squid, and crustaceans. Threats to this species include habitat destruction, introduced predators, and accidental bycatch in fishing gear.
