Carmiol's Tanager

Chlorothraupis carmioli

Carmiol's Tanager (Chlorothraupis carmioli) is a small, vibrantly colored bird found in the highland forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. It is characterized by its striking combination of black, blue, and yellow plumage, with a distinctive bright blue head and throat. These tanagers are often found foraging in the canopy for insects and small fruits. They are known for their melodious and varied songs, often heard echoing through the misty cloud forests where they reside. Carmiol's Tanagers are generally social birds, often seen in small flocks, and are known to breed in the dense vegetation of the forest understory.
