Cassin's Kingbird

Tyrannus vociferans

The Cassin's Kingbird is a medium-sized tyrant flycatcher found in western North America. It is known for its distinctive call and aggressive behavior towards intruders in its territory. This species has a gray head, dark brown wings, and a yellow belly. It typically inhabits open woodlands, riparian areas, and urban environments. Cassin's Kingbirds are adept at catching insects in mid-air and often perch on exposed branches or wires to scan for prey. They are known for their acrobatic flight and are often seen sallying out to catch flying insects. While their population is currently stable, they may face threats from habitat loss and pesticide use.
