Machetornis rixosa (Vieillot, 1819)
Cattle Tyrant, Machetornis rixosa, is a tyrant flycatcher found from Panama through south-eastern South America. It is the only member of Machetornis and is placed in the family Tyrannidae. It lives in open and semi-open country rather than forest, using savannah, pasture, parkland, farmland and gardens. The species is notable for its pugnacious nature and for taking over the nests of other birds. Its relationships with other tyrant flycatchers are uncertain, and it has been compared with Tyrannus flycatchers.
