Ninox randi
The Cebu hawk-owl (Ninox randi) is a small, elusive owl species endemic to the island of Cebu in the Philippines. It is characterized by its reddish-brown plumage, prominent yellow eyes, and distinctive hooting calls. This nocturnal bird of prey inhabits the remaining patches of primary and secondary forests on Cebu, where it preys on small mammals, birds, and insects. Due to habitat loss and degradation, the population of the Cebu hawk-owl is declining, and it is currently listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting its remaining forest habitat and raising awareness about the importance of preserving this unique species.
